Beware of Phishing Scams. Especially During Times of Hardship
Have you checked your spam box recently? If you have, I'm certain you have discovered a massive amount of emails addressed to people you haven't heard of.
Or you may have discovered emails from people like Amazon. Offering you gift cards, rewards. Or they could be from Apple, stating that your iCloud storage hasn't synced and you need to login to update your password.
Please, do not be fooled by these emails. They are all fake. Every single one of them. There is a way to tell there authenticity without having to email the source stated in the email directly. Just click on the name in the email. It should say the email address the email was sent from. I can guarantee you that it will be from something like someone@service-host.com.. Something like that. That was just an example. But they do try to trick you by providing an email address that looks like it could be from someone authentic.
If you still have any doubts about the emails authenticity, contact the source of the email. Not through the email address. If you have a email from the HMRC for example, contact the HMRC directly. I am certain they will tell you are not entitled to a refund.
These are all Phishing Scams. They are after your passwords, so they can steal money from you. Buy gift cards and sell them.
Recently I fell for one. There was a email sent to me stating I had 27 BTC in my astarcoin.net account. They provided an user id number and password for me to login. So, I checked the account. There was 27 BTC in the account. So I tried to withdraw some. They let me withdraw 0.00001 BTC. Approx. £2 gbp at the time. I thought, okay, it works. Then I was asked to put some BTC in before I could withdraw anymore. So I did. Only when I tried to withdraw it, it said that I couldn't. I had to put enough BTC in to round it up to the initial investment. So I did. Not that I actually had £4500 gbp to lose. I did put it in anyhow, thinking I would be able to retrieve my money.
I tried to withdraw my BTC. I waited approx. 5 minutes.
They sent me message, stating my account had been flagged and I could no longer withdraw my funds. Unless I have the wallet address of the initial investment. I don't have it, because I didn't create the account. And they know that, because they created the account.
Now they won't give the funds back.
The moral of this story is, you will unlikely find any good mail in your spam inbox. So don't bother even going through them.
